H. Elizabeth Remus was born in California in January 1989 and transplanted to Dover, New Jersey at the age of six with her three younger siblings and her mother and father. There she spent most of her childhood until the family (then with eight members total) was transplanted again in the midwestern town of Seward, Nebraska when H. E. was 17 years old. Her saga continued in Nebraska until she was 21, and then she moved to Philadelphia. From there she found her way to Maine in 2011 and has declared it her territory ever since. The details of these past years all over the United States, from suburban to country to city living, the experiences of rebelling against American Christian values and breaking out of traditional lifestyles, all influence her fictional work.

She was brought up on classical, Biblical, ancient, and American mythology, fairy tales, Eastern folklore, and the history of Greece, Rome, and Egypt. There are elements of science fiction in her stories which come from her experience working with technology and her fascination with escaping from Earth.
